License renewal for Florida’s more than 52,000 licensed Professional Engineers opens on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and continues through Feb. 28, 2027.

The renewal process has three key components:

  • Continuing education: You must complete 18 hours of continuing education (CE), including a one-hour Florida Laws and Rules course from a provider approved by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers; one hour of professional ethics; four hours related to your area of practice; and 12 hours on any topic pertinent to the practice of engineering. All 18 hours must be completed between March 1, 2025, and Feb. 28, 2027.

  • CE reporting: Rules in the Florida Administrative Code require you to use the NCEES Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) Tracking system to report your CE hours and upload your certificates. Once you have completed all of your required CE hours and uploaded the documentation, you must transmit your CPC transcript to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE). The Board will use the system to verify that you have met your continuing-education requirements.

  • License renewal: Log in to your account at myfloridalicense.com to complete your renewal and pay the required fees.

In past renewal periods, about half of Florida’s licensed PEs have waited until the final three weeks to renew their licenses. This last-minute rush strains the licensing system, which can run slower than usual and cause payment delays. It also overwhelms the Board’s 12 full-time staff members, making it difficult for them to respond promptly to calls and emails.

Waiting until February to renew might not seem like a big deal, but you could be putting your livelihood at risk. If your license expires, you cannot practice engineering in Florida, including signing and sealing engineering documents.

Common Renewal Problems and How to Prevent Them

You can’t start your renewal until Nov. 3.
The renewal link won’t be available until then.

You are asked for an activation code.
Your activation code is the last four digits of your Social Security number.

You get a message that says “entity already associated with another User ID, cannot proceed.”
This means that your PE license is linked to another email address. If the email address associated with your license is no longer valid or is from a previous employer, Board staff can unlink the old email address from your account. Once that is done, you can create a new account using your current email address.

You forgot your password.
If you attempt to sign in to your account and have forgotten your password, select “Forgot My Password.” You will be prompted to “Create a New Password” by answering your security question. After creating a new password, you should be able to access your account.

You forgot the answer to the security question associated with your account.
Contact the Board office at renewal@fbpe.org. Board staff can have a temporary password sent to you. However, it may take up to 24 hours to process your request. If you are sending a request to reset your password, you must include your name, license number, and the email address linked to your account to complete the request.

Where do you provide proof of your continuing education?
You must report all 18 hours of your continuing education to FBPE using the free NCEES CPC Tracking system. Only continuing education courses taken between March 1, 2025, and Feb. 28, 2027, are acceptable. The Board has step-by-step instructions on its website that will show you how to set up a free NCEES account, begin uploading your CE documentation, and transmit your CPC transcript to FBPE.

What about the required Florida Laws and Rules course?
Your Florida Laws and Rules course must be reported to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) by your CE provider and must be reported before you renew your license. Log in to your account at myfloridalicense.com and verify that your Laws and Rules course has been reported. If not, do not start your renewal; instead, contact your CE provider.

Do you have to answer the attestation questions?
During the renewal process, you attest that you completed your CE requirements, completed a Florida Laws and Rules course, and whether you have had disciplinary action taken against your license in another jurisdiction. You must answer all three questions, or your PE license will not renew.
